healing from addiction often means healing from the traumas we’ve faced
Every year, many people experience horrible, tragic events that leave them living in fear, reliving the trauma and pain of those excruciating events. Its unreasonable to think that someone who has suffered a traumatic event would walk away unscathed or unchanged. Many times, we may need help overcoming the after effects of such painful memories.
There are many causes of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These may include military combat veterans, those who have suffered childhood abuse, been the victims of a violent crime, or even a natural disaster or terrible accident. It is not uncommon for those who have endured such traumas to understandably seek refuge in drugs or alcohol. Some who do may find that stopping becomes difficult, or even impossible. Some may need help.
Successful treatment for addiction and PTSD includes beginning treatment for both afflictions at the same time. There are many resources available for addiction treatment that include intensive care for PTSD and trauma recovery.
